Retro Travel Poster & Merchandise

Concept

This project consists of a retro travel poster with the use of only 5 colors. The concept was to show the most iconic places in San Antonio as part of the cityscape: the Alamo, San Fernando Cathedral, the Alamodome, and the Tower of the Americas, with the Texas hill country in the background. Then, in order to add some depth and movement to the digital illustration, the quote and city name was included along with “papel picado” (perforated paper) banners that are often seen in downtown San Antonio.

Design Strategy

With the poster as the main piece, the other pieces were designed using the same elements to unify the entire project, but modified to fit each individual deliverable as needed.

The color scheme was derived from images of Fiesta week in San Antonio. It is a celebration that takes place every year in April — one that began in the late 19th century to celebrate the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. It is marked by parades and other events with food, music, sports, and pageantry.
